It’s just a car, right? Well, not quite. Tesla comes with a different owner experience than most cars. But Tesla has broken the mold for electric vehicles and all other vehicles, so it should not be too surprising that being an owner has been eye-opening.
Here are 4 things I have learned:
Tesla Community
Tesla owners have created their own community, with different Facebook groups, meetups, etc. In the beginning, there weren’t many Tesla owners so there was a mentality of “sticking together” that was created and has persisted. So far, I’m a fan and enjoy the camaraderie.
I do like road trips.
I used to think that I did not like to drive long distances, and maybe that was true in the past, but not anymore. Surprise, surprise, I actually like taking road trips. Maybe it’s the navigation’s planned stops with durations, the social/friendly atmosphere at (most of) the supercharging stations, the games I play in the car while I charge, Autopilot, or just the sheer comfort the car delivers. Whatever it is, I have been opting to drive more than taking a quick flight and from several conversations with other owners this is a common occurrence.
Fake News
There are soooo many misconceptions and incorrect “facts” about Tesla. From the cost of the vehicles to the car’s safety, there’s a lot of misinformation about Tesla. This is probably due to the company being so young and new to the automobile industry that there are unfounded assumptions made about the car/company/Elon Musk that have turned into false truths.
Don’t worry, follow this blog and I’ll keep you informed 😉.
Lack of Diversity
As a 28-year-old black woman, at the time we bought our Tesla Model S, I noticed that there were not many people that looked like me at the supercharger stations, social media platforms, or even just around town. In fact, there weren’t many different types of people in general that owned a Tesla. Fast forward three years later and I definitely see more diversity in Tesla owners, especially after the release of the Model 3, but there is still room for improvement. I have seen a melting pot of people that own a Honda, and this is what I’m looking forward to for Tesla.
Now, there are minority/young/female Tesla owners, there just are not enough. This is a large part of the reason that I started this blog, to share my unique experiences and perspective as a minority owner of a Tesla.
